Size Guide

Prevelo Bike Sizing

Getting your kids the right size bike is important and, fortunately, also easy. You just need two pieces of information about your little rider:

  • Inseam
  • Rider Experience

Measuring Inseam

  1. Have the rider stand against a wall, hold a book between their legs so that it is firmly against their crotch (the same place their bicycle seat will be).
  2. Measure the distance from the floor to the top of the book.

Rider Experience

Children who are learning are more sensitive to bicycle height than children who already know how to ride a bike. For this reason, our recommendations for bicycle sizing vary slightly based on the experience lever of the rider. The chart below takes into account the fact that experienced riders tend to adapt better to a bike that is slightly larger. For this purpose we categorize young riders as either "Learners" or "Pedalers"

  • Learner: riders who either have not yet learned to ride a pedal bike, or are still frequently putting their feet on the ground while riding.
  • Pedaler: riders who can ride confidently and only put their feet down to stop.

Worth it's Weight in Gold

Short review I recommend this bike to anyone & everyone looking for a bike for a young rider. I would give it 10 stars if I could. I also can't say enough good things about Jacob as a business owner. The "combo pack" with the short post is genius & his customer service is second to none. Long review We were originally hesitant, asking ourselves "should we really spend this much money on our son's first pedal bike?" The answer is absolutely yes! It's possibly the best money we've ever spent on him. Your kid's first pedal bike lays the foundation in their minds for what bike riding is. This bike builds a foundation of confidence which allows your kid to associate bike riding with fun. 3 weeks of riding a "big kid bike (we gave him his Alpha 2 for his 4th birthday) & our son has already gone for 2 rides of 8 miles & one ride of 9 miles. He has so much fun & feels so confident riding that he keeps asking to go further. The geometry is perfect for small riders. The brakes are there when he reaches for them. If his feet slip off the pedals he can find them without looking. The light weight allowed our son to learn to take off & stop on his own very quickly. The center of gravity allows him to recover from the wobbles that come while learning. Jacob was also a pleasure to do business with. A local shipping company "lost" our bike & said that they might not be able to remedy the situation until it would have been too late to get anohter bike here in time for my son's birthday. When I told Jacob that he offered to send me a new bike right away even though the problem wasn't his fault. He said "What kind of kid's bike company would we be if I let a kid go without a bike on his birthday?" You don't get service like that from big companies. The only question we have now is whether his next bike will be an Alpha 3 or a Zulu 3.

Self teacher

I got the Prevelo Alpha Two for my son’s 4th birthday. He is small for his age but the shorter seatpost all of the way down allowed him to touch the ground easily. On day 1 I ended up taking the pedals off so that he could use it like his balance bike and get used to the brakes. He loved using the brakes and was able to pull them easily. On day 2 I put the pedals back on. I pushed him around for a little and started letting him go. The next thing I know he was going on his own and able to start and stop by himself with no problems. I bought the Alpha Two because of the low standover for a 16” wheeled bike. I’d recomend this bike to anyone. The quality is great and my son is very comfortable on it.

Got it first try

Bike is as great as others say, our almost 4 year old was pushing it like a balance bike (which she had before) for about 3 blocks to the park, and when we got to the AstroTurf field at the park she just put her feet on the pedals and started riding. I really couldn't believe how easy it was for her. She had tried other neighbors pedal bikes, but never felt comfortable on them enough to get going (12 & 16 inch bikes with and without training wheels) Quality of the components is great as well, I felt confident putting her on it, and even gave it test ride myself down the hall at home with no worries. I did a small brake adjustment after assembly, but only because I'm neurotic about that stuff being a former bike mechanic, it honestly would have been fine without it. If anyone has doubts about assembly just have a local bike shop take a look, I still have a soft spot in my heart for bike shops and it was weird buying from an online company, but I'm so glad I went with Prevelo! Plus the fact that it's silver and not pink or blue actually doubles the value of the bike in my mind as little brother will be on it next.

Great kids bike

This is a great bike. Well designed and made- my 4 year old son was able to transition to this bike from his 12'' easily. He calls it his "speed bike" because it is so much easier for him to pedal and ride fast. We went on a 4 mile bike ride with him around San Diego Bay and he led the whole time! I'm really glad we chose this bike.
